FOREWORD
Since
starting my work in the EMS (Emergency Medical
Services) I have struggled to get to sleep. Even
when I am exhausted, I often lie awake tossing
and turning before I finally “switch off”.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is what the experts
call it.
After
sharing some of my harrowing experiences with
family and friends I was encouraged to write it
all down and get the story out to the public.
Perhaps it will help curb the unnecessary injuries
and death to our young ones.
Many
readers have told me that the stories have made
them weep. It was not my intention to make people
cry. My intention is to get the message out there.
Many people voice their frustration and dismay
at seeing children standing on the seats of cars
or sitting on their parent’s lap in the
driver’s seat. In many countries, including
South Africa, the law is not sufficient to stop
this dangerous act. Hence, this book, although
it may cause some tears, will hopefully encourage
the readers to take more seriously the health
and safety of children.
I
implore you, the reader, to “push through”
the stories and read this book to the end. I also
ask that you join me in what I have nicknamed
“Operation CHEW”
- the “Child Hazard
Elimination War”.
Help me get the message out there by giving this
book as a gift to friends and family.
Names
have been changed and the locations of the incidences
have purposefully been kept vague to protect the
identities of the patients.
Yours
in health and safety,
Mark
